Selections for Tuesday, 19 May racing at Palmerstom North (M3) and Addington (M9)

First, it looks like we’re going to have to get a new banner as it will be Free Ratings on Tuesday for the next year or so at least.

A reminder that there are TAB Bonus Back offers for races 1 and 2 at Palmerston North, not Addington. 

Best Bet

Palmerston North M3 R4 Boys Get Paid (1)

I put him on top last week and he ran the fourth best opening sectional of the day.  The three who ran faster all won on Friday night.  Last week, he was just beaten by a very good dog in Big Time Baby and I do wonder also about the short back.  He’s had a week to get up for this, has the inside draw and has the best time track and distance.  The only flag is that he’s up in class.

For a best bet, it was pretty bad.  Missed the jump and really didn’t show any spark.  Disappointing.

Value Bet

Palmerston North M3 R3 Belmonts (6)

This race looks like a race in two.  I think Big Time Vince is a better dog at Hatrick although his closing sectional last week was outstanding.  The key could be the other end of the race – Belmonts had a superior opening sectional and Vince was slow away.  If the same happens again, then Belmonts could be left in front and he’s won 3 from 5 this distance.  Save on the quinella or an AB/AB/fld trifecta.

Missed the start – in fact the start was the opposite of what we had expected and once Vince picked the jump it wasn’t a fair contest.

Sectional Special

Palmerston North M3 R7 Here’s Hemi (8)

Last week, Here’s Hemi ran the second fastest closest sectional on the day – running in a C1.  He’s a slow trapper so the outside boxes suit.  Helpfully, there’s not a lot of speed in the race and the favourite isn’t the best starter and has just one place from 5 attempts over 457m.  If Hemi runs a time close to what he ran last week, he could be the upsetter and decent each way money.

Second by a neck. Close but one of those days so close is better than not close.

Multi Makers

M3 R2 Big Time Angel was the easiest win bet of the year last week and the $1.50 was in retrospect very generous.  Looks the same today.  Did miss the jump on Friday but still won in 17.58.

Another disappointing return but we will continue until the end of this week and then reassess.
