Selections for Friday, 8 May racing at Whanganui (M9)

Apologies for the delay in posting – still waiting for the weight changes to be displayed.  However, both the runners listed below are having their second starts since the break so should be in peak condition.

First premier meeting at Hatrick tonight after the midweek meeting so a number of these runners are on a 3 day backup while others are having their first run in almost two months.

After last night, the warning light has been flashing and the siren wailing.  It’s clear that it will take a couple of weeks for runners to get back to the normal patterns.  Unfortunately, our main selections last night clearly were in a need of a run (or two) while I do wonder whether the new boxing regime is penalising the dogs in box 1.

Perhaps the best strategy in the short term is to go a little wider in trebles and quaddies etc and with a view to getting some overs when a short priced favourite misses.  The same strategy can be useful in getting overs in exotics – the top 5 runners in a race last night easily took out the trifecta but the two favourites missed and the trifecta paid close to $800.

Anyway, for the short term, lets tread carefully!

Best Bet

Whangaui M9 R12  Allegro Curtis (3)

Rated 60 midweek so can be backed with some confidence.  Looks to have the early pace to lead and should be too good for them again.  Not a lot of value but could spice up a few multis.

RP $1.80 currently $1.70FF

Next Best Bet

Whangaui M9 R6  Allegro Will (5)

If Bigtime Jackson wasn’t in this, Allegro Will would be paying a lot less than the $3 on offer.  I like the fact that he’s already had a run while I would expect Jackson to be ready to run, trials aren’t quite the same as racing.  While Jackson is down in class, he’s unproven as a sprinter while Allegro Will has the wins on the board.

RP $2.50 currently $3.00FF

Special – Rugs Challenge

Whanganui M9 Rugs Challenge Yellow (5)

Box 5 is on top in the box challenge and has a couple of top chances in the first 3 races.  If yellow wins early, the prices should drop quickly so I think there’s some value in the $3.50.

RP $2.50 currently $3.50FF

Recommended Strategy – 10 Units

We’re trialling a recommended strategy per meeting and will use a standard 10 unit strategy per day.  Keep in mind that if your single unit is $10, you multiple the units below by your value to work out the amount to invest.

Small investments recommended until we can have more confidence in the form.

4 units M9 R12  Allegro Curtis @ $1.70

2 units M9 R12  Allegro Will @ $3.00

4 units Rugs Challenge Box 5 (yellow) @ $3.50
