Updated at 1.30 with suggested pick 6.

$15 for 10%.  The obvious anchor is Bigtime Cooper but it would be nice to have a little more cover if live into the last leg. Out in the first leg but an easy concession.

R1 1, 3, 4, 5 Missed … who said box speed is gold and left the mapped leader out?
R2 4, 5, 6
R3 2, 7
R4 1, 4
R5 1, 6, 7
R6 3, 5

There’s three runners I like today.  The Pick 6 looks gettable but famous last words.

M3 Race 2 Cawbourne Moss (5)

The speed map has him away just ok but the sectionals tell us that he’s got a chance of being on the pace.  If he can avoid any bad luck and get around the lead by the end of the back straight, he has the strength to win this.  His last start win tells us he’s back in form so and only ONE of the rest of the field has saluted the judge in their last 5 starts.

Harpoon Harry (7) looks the obvious quinella candidate.

Cawbourne Moss is currently paying $2.10 and I’d be surprised if he didn’t come in a little given he looks the obvious one.

Cawbourne Moss lead as we thought might happen and Harpoon Harry helped out by running a clear second.

M3 Race 8 Bigtime Shine (8)

I haven’t been able to get shine on the right day.  A couple of weeks back, I made her bet of the day and she bombed the start.  Next up at Palmerston North, she won easily.

She’s helped by having Awesome Quality in box 7 as he’s guaranteed to be slow away.

The rest of the field is pretty even.  Bigtime Banjo (6) look and Dynamite Danger (3) to be the other speed influences but at her best, Shine will cross them comfortably.  The pace on the outside could help bring Awesome Quality into the race – he has the second best time for the course and distance.

Bigtime Shine is currently paying $2.60 which is about right – with an inside draw you’d expect her to be paying a lot less.

Gee, that was a tough win.  Race started as mapped with Benji having the lead and Shine had to be very good to get around the outside.

M9 Race 5 Bigtime Cooper (5)

Bigtime Cooper is the dog that makes the speed maps and sectionals so enjoyable.  Once those lids go up, he’s off and he’s been consistently running best of all time opening sectionals, as he did to win the Group 1 on Friday night.

Given that he’s stronger at the start than the end, you have to think the 475m suits him even better than the 520m on Friday night.

If he jumps like he did on Friday, he wins.  But as always box speed is gold and if he gives the rest of the field a sniff and misses the jump or runs into some bad luck, there’s a few contenders.  Bigtime Levi is drawn inside Cooper and has been a grand performer.  This his 70th race over the distance and his won a third of those.  All About Space is one of the dogs with the ability to feature at both ends of the race.  And Thrilling Amigo is a hard dog to follow but at his best has the ability to compete at the top level plus the outside draw helps.

Once again, it’s a case of if he jumps he should win.  Happy to take the $1.90 in multis.

I suspect a few multis were ending on Cooper and there was a thump at the start when he didn’t make his usual electric getaway.  Still he showed his class but getting to the lead and the bookies were the ones who took the thumping at the end of the day.

Pick 6

I’ll post a suggested pick 6 later today once any late scratchings are confirmed.

Rugs Challenge

M3 – Box 4 looks value at $4.50 Yes – nice money too.

M9 – Box 1 looks way overs at $7.50 but there’s only 4 runners with dog 1 scratched in race 5 Yes and big overs – got out to $10 after race 1.

A much better day after a few tough days recently.  Hope your account got a boost.

Back again next Monday.
