You’ll often hear people talk about the golden rule of greyhound racing – box speed is gold.
The speed map is a great help for both finding the likely leaders and seeing which side of the track the speed is likely to come from.
The speed map for Race 7 at Manukau shows that Was Just Saying is the likely leader from box 3. As the TAB preview comment states, he does prefer wider draws but there doesn’t look to be much pressure at all on his outside.
The sectionals from last week show that he has a great initial acceleration – even though he’s only a C1 dog, he ran the second fastest opening sectional over 318 m last Sunday.
With a repeat of that, he looks to have a very clear shot at getting to the front and the rest of the field has to catch up.
Last week there were 4 other runners that had at least average speed and so were in a position to challenge – one of those was the eventual winner, Bombshell Blonde.
This week, there’s looks like only one other runner who has any early speed – Billy Bullet who’s drawn box 2. With Was Just Saying preferring the outside, that’s should suit us fine.
The downside is that Was Just Saying’s closing sectional is slower than a week of holiday in Palmerston North in summer.
However, the ratings show that it’s not the strongest field and Was Just Saying has the second best time for all runners over the last 6 starts and the second best time for the track and distance.
He’s definitely a chance of being run down but the stats and speed map suggest he’s also got a great chance of getting out in front in clear air and any problems behind would suit us fine. Great value at $9.50FF and $2.60FP. The place money looks like nice money for multis.
The best other bets look like Opawa Libby in box 1 but she’s likely to be slow away or Hot Mayhem (4) who could get a drag into the race by our best bet.
Good luck
David
